From: Zane Derbyshire [mailto:ZaneD@highveld.co.za] Sent: Thursday, June 12, 2008 09:21 To: Matthew van der Want Subject: RE: "dream of you" single off best and worst of Matthew van der Want CD
Hi Matthew
We did receive it and I have actually listened to the whole album and quite enjoyed it.
That said, we did not think that any of the tracks were suitable for playlisting on on 94.7. They are just not in format for the station.

Review of van der Want / Letcher at Back2Bassix on Friday 30 March 2007 here
"I'm starting a band, baby. Starting a band..." Gigs with Chris Letcher got me all inspired again and made think about some priorities. First rehearsal Monday with Paul, a drummer and bass player Nathan (ex Amersham now with Cassette). I'll keep you posted.
Van der Want/Letcher at Back2Bassix / Auckland Park / Westdene on FRIDAY 30 MARCH 2007 21h00 and on 3 April 2007 at Cafe Barcelona Pretoria
Chris Letcher's website has details of a tour of his band to SA in November and the release of their CD. See www.letchermusic.com and www.myspace.com/letchermusic
I found this in a review of the Lloyd Cole show..."When [Lloyd Cole] first takes the stage after support act Matthew van der Want’s intense-attorney-in-deviant-acoustic-guts-spilling-fetish routine, he looks like a roadie come to give the amplifier knobs a final polish."
I thought that my gig and that of Lloyd Cole gelled well together to be the most uninspiring evening I've got through in ages.
Matthew van der Want will open for Lloyd Cole on Monday 3 July 2006 at the Bassline, Newtown, Johannesburg - time to be advised.
Chris Letcher's band Letcher will come out to SA in November 2006. Sources close to Letcher intimated that the chances of van der Want joining in the fray for at least one or two gigs were "quite good".
Matthew van der Want and Anika play at Cafe Barcelona, Elardus Park Shopping Centre, Pretoria on Saturday 19 November 2005. To book call 012-345 3602
More gigs to be confirmed. Will let you know the details when they're available.
4 October 2005 NEW CD - "CASUAL KILLING"
You can order a copy of this CD by sending your postal address to mvdwant@hotmail.com and payment arrangements (R100) can be made from there.
Chris recorded his songs in London and Matthew his in Johannesburg. Just before we toured in September 2005, Chris came out to South Africa and we finished it off.
We decided to forgo the record company route. Too depressing. It will not be available in the shops. We might put it out "properly" in the future...
Thanks for buying it at the gigs. It is because of you that were able to afford R400 bottles of 12 year old whiskey throughout the tour and Matthew is now using some of the proceeds to attend smokenders. So you have helped save a life. Feel proud.
3 October 2005 Aw. Our tour ended. We believe it was a roaring success and shall do it again next year. It was very good to have new songs to play to you. Thanks to all those who bought "Casual Killing" CDs and who came to the gig. The city of the Tour Award goes to Cape Town for disspelling our rude notions about you and coming out in the rain.
A quality recording was made of the two Cape Town gis. Hopefully, this will result in the release of a live van der Want / Letcher album fairly soon - somrthing we've been wanting to do for a long time. Will let you know.
15 September 2005 Chris arrived 14 September. We'll be hard at work over the next few days getting a home-made recording ready for the gigs. Probably only ready by the 21st September gig at the Bassline. We are looking forward to Saturday at the Songwriters' club. (Interesting idea - a songwriters' club. We're not member of this particular one, but recall membership fees of songwriting clubs in general being quite high.) That said, cover for Saturday's gig is a mere R40. Bring your friends, please.
